Though he was originally found not guilty, Hernandez was already serving a life sentence for masterminding the murder of his fiances sisters boyfriend, Odin Lloyd, in 2013. The then 27-year-old was not eligible for parole, and five days after he was acquitted in 2017, he died by suicide when he hanged himself with a bed sheet in prison.

Besides explaining Hernandez's crimes, the docuseries also addresses his strained relationship with his mother, Terri Hernandez.

The former football player reportedly tried to repair the damage between him and his mom after their relationship supposedly fractured following the 2006 death of Hernandezs father.

Theres so many things I would love to talk to you about, so you can know me as a person, he told his mom in one phone call, which were recorded by authorities and released as public record. But I could never tell you. And youre gonna die without even knowing your son.

Much of the mother and son's relationship is documented through their phone calls.

Viewers will go on to learn more about their relationship through recorded calls, which explain how Aaron ultimately blamed his mom for many of his problems.

I was the happiest little kid in the world, and you f*cked me up, he said to her.

I aint living with that, she replied.

You did, he responded. I had nobody. Whatd you think I was going to do? Become a perfect angel?

In another conversation, Hernandez blamed his mom for not treating his ADHD.

You ruined me, he told her. Youre the reason I could never pay attention in school and sh*t. You were supposed to get me my medication.

I knocked you over the head with a frickin hammer, she responded. That was your medication.
