In what can only be classified as a miracle, a woman and her driver cheated death after escaping their delivery van which had somersaulted, later bursting into flames along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Punch reports that the vehicle had been heading towards the Sagamu area, delivering cartons of sausage rolls to customers, when the accident had taken place at about 11am on Tuesday, January 9 at Ibafo.

Punch further gathered that passersbys had quickly help the two occupants to vacate the van, with the van exploding in flames barely 5 minutes later.

The dazed middle aged woman had been muttering, “Thank you Jesus” for most of the time after she had been rescued from the vehicle.

The driver revealed that he had lost control of the van immediately the tyre burst, explaining in a statement:

“We were coming from Lagos and going to Sagamu to make deliveries of some sausage rolls. I didn’t know what went wrong. I just discovered that one of the tyres burst and I lost control of the van. It somersaulted several times. We are lucky.”

Punch Metro had gathered that the accident could have been worse as  a fuel-laden tanker had been by the roadside, not far from the scene of the accident.

The tanker driver, had reportedly driven the tanker away from the scene as soon as the explosion had occured.

The Ogun State Fire Service had reportedly shown up to put out the fire, the Federal Road Safety Corps officials arrived to control the traffic that had built up on the road as a result of the accident.
