In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on August 16, 2016, he advised motorists to embrace the use of the device or face the consequences.

"The National Assembly had earlier suspended the implementation of the speed-limit device, but now it has given us the go ahead to implement it with effect from Oct. 1.

As you are aware, majority of the crashes on the nation’s roads in the past was caused by speed violation (SPV) which had led to losses of many lives.

So, in implementing the device in the state, we are not going to witch-hunt anybody, we are just going to ensure compliance", he said.

Maku also announced a plan to embark on sensitization campaigns, adding that the use of this device would reduce speeding and accidents.

"We are going to have a weeklong sensitisation which will commence on Aug. 18, with a comprehensive public enlightenment at motor parks.

We want a total support from the public so that they can be aware of the benefits and importance of the device", he said.
