State government partners with FRSC to address road traffic accidents

Bauchi state, in conjunction with the Federal Road  Safety Commission (FRSC), is set to reduce the high rate of deaths and injuries in road traffic accidents with it's zonal workshop.

At the opening ceremony of the event tagged "Marshalling resources for improved stakeholders consultation” on Monday, December 7th, the governor, Mohammed Abubakar, revealed the actual number of deaths and accidents recorded.

According to him, 5,996 died, 32,063 suffered injuries last year, while 123 persons were killed and1,387 were injured in bauchi state from January to September 2015.

“Safety Digest reported that 2010, road traffic cost Nigeria about 30% of the nation’s gross domestic product which is about 17% of the current national reserve. Statistics  presented during the United Nation global ministerial conference held in Russia 2009, showed that 1.3 billion people died as a result of road crashes every year, not less than 80% of these crashes and deaths occur in the third world country.”

He went on to promise to reduce the rate of traffic road crashes by partnering with the FRSC in the state.

The Marshal and Chief Executive of FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi, represented by the Deputy Marshal, responded by promising to fight against road crashes with the help of Nigerians and other stakeholders.
