A Kado Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Tuesday sentenced a 24-year-old farmer to one month imprisonment for criminal force and assault.
The convict, Sunday Sarki, who resides at Kuchibina Village, Gwarimpa, Abuja, was found guilty on the two-count charge preferred against him.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, convicted and sentenced the convict after he had pleaded guilty to the charge and begged for leniency.
According to the judge, the punishment will serve as a lesson to others who wish to commit the same offence.
He, however, gave the convict an option of N5,000 fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Idi, told the court that the matter was reported on March 17 by one Ekene Cudeogu of Gwarimpa Estate to the Gwarimpa Police Station.
Idi said the convict intentionally slapped the complainant on the face without any reason because there was no misunderstanding between them in the past.
He said that the offence contravened Sections 263 and 264 of the Penal Code Law.
