Coach of relegated Lagos-based club, Ikorodu United,
Following a dismal season, the Oga Boys' relegation was confirmed with the 1-0 loss to Plateau United on Sunday, September 18.
The Lagos club lost their last home game this season to Champions elect Enugu Rangers 2-1 as their terrible season continues.
The Technical Adviser of the side, De Jong who is preparing for life in the National League next season is looking to replicate his side’s recent victories in the NPFL so as to bounce back.
Before their last two losses to Plateau United and Enugu Rangers, the Oga Boys managed victories over Heartland, KanoPillars and Enyimba.
De Jong believes those victories show that the Oga Boys are good enough to compete in the NPFL.
"Yeah, the team have improved a lot since I came in, but unfortunately, it was quite too late for us as we cannot escape relegation," the 69- year-old Dutch coach told Complete Sports.
"I believe we will be stronger next season and do well in the National League. The players have adapted so well to my coaching philosophy which is very crucial.
'If they continue this way, I believe we will be back in the NPFL very soon."
De Jong was appointed as coach following the sacking of Sam Okpodu earlier in the season.
