Hungarian goalkeeper left in shock: Gulácsi sidelined following terrifying home robbery
The robbery occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning in the Monasterios residential complex in Puçol, north of Valencia. The 36-year-old goalkeeper, who joined the club in the summer, was subsequently left out of Tuesday's Champions League clash against Napoli following the incident. Villarreal confirmed in a statement that they immediately alerted the relevant authorities, who have launched an investigation.
According to local media, neither Gulácsi nor his family sustained physical injuries, but the ordeal left them deeply shaken. In light of the traumatic circumstances, the club and the player mutually agreed that he would not be included in the matchday squad for Tuesday's match.
The incident echoes a similar event from February 2024 involving former Villarreal midfielder Étienne Capoue, who was targeted in an attempted burglary at his Bétera home while dining on the ground floor with his family inside the property. News agencies MTI and DPA contributed to this report.
