Piero Hincapié and Martín Zubimendi missed Arsenal's training session today and are widely expected to be ruled out of Mikel Arteta's squad for tomorrow's Champions League clash against Lille. Both players picked up injuries during the post-match warm-down following Saturday's game against Leeds. Footage circulating on social media showed Hincapié in severe pain with a right ankle problem, requiring assistance from Cristhian Mosquera and Illan Meslier to leave the pitch. The Ecuadorian defender had only just returned from a month-long layoff, playing just eight minutes against Leeds.
Zubimendi also sustained a minor knock after the match, despite not featuring at all during the 90 minutes.
The setbacks will come as a major frustration for Mikel Arteta, who was likely looking to rotate his squad against Lille. Riccardo Calafiori was rested when the Gunners traveled to Napoli for their Champions League opener last month, with Hincapié starting in his place as Arsenal carefully manage the Italian's minutes. Being without Zubimendi also deprives Arteta of the chance to give key midfielders like Declan Rice and Myles Lewis-Skelly a well-deserved breather.
