England midfielder Jordan Henderson sustained an injury while celebrating the victory over Mexico. The Three Lions secured a hard-fought 3-2 win at the Estadio Azteca, booking their place in the quarterfinals of the North American World Cup.
Immediately after the final whistle, the England players headed towards their fans. Henderson joined the celebrations but, in an unfortunate turn, injured his elbow while jumping over an advertising hoarding. Manager Thomas Tuchel described the injury as "very bad."
"Jordan fell and injured his elbow. It looks quite bad. It's a serious injury, and it's a shame he won't be with us tonight. The doctor told me he's in the hospital," stated the Three Lions' coach.
The 36-year-old Brentford midfielder only played six minutes at the end of England's match against Panama. However, he is considered one of the team's key leaders. The former Liverpool player will now miss the quarterfinal clash against Norway. For that crucial match, Tuchel will also be without Jarell Quansah, who received a red card against Mexico.
