Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has paid tribute to Bernardo Silva as the club captain approaches the end of his tenure with the English giants. The Spaniard, however, claims he has not yet been informed of Silva's departure.
The Portuguese midfielder appears set to leave City when his contract expires this summer, following nine years at the Etihad Stadium. Assistant coach Pep Lijnders all but confirmed this last week.
"Every good story has an end, and I hope he enjoys these final months, because there are only six weeks left. After that, he will say goodbye," Lijnders explained.
There has been no official confirmation from the club or Silva himself, and Guardiola insists he remains unaware of any such decision.
"I'm very angry with Bernardo. A month ago, I told him I should be the first to know when he makes a final decision. Bernardo still hasn't told me anything," Guardiola stated emphatically.
Silva has made 450 appearances for City since his transfer from Monaco in 2017. His accolades include six Premier League titles, one Champions League trophy, one FIFA Club World Cup, two FA Cups, and five League Cups.
Since the current season, Silva has served as the club captain for the Manchester side.
"He possesses the perfect qualities for the role. It was the best decision I made this season. Last season was our toughest, but Bernardo was there, setting an example in matches and training. He can play in various positions and reads every situation. He knows what every action on the field demands. For him, the team always comes first," Guardiola added.
