The Osun state government has launched a new a new smart identity card integrated with biometrics to be issued to students of all public school in the state.
Student Pulse gathered that the ID card, linked to a central database, will give accurate data on student enrolment and identity.
Osun Defender reports that the project is part of the state government's initiative to deploy technology to boost the overall planning, allocation of resources and service delivery in the education field.
Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola is excited about the project which he says further raise service delivery levels in the education sector.
"The Smart Card makes tracking possible, implying that we are provided with more accurate information on the exact number of beneficiaries which eliminates fraud and accounting error of any type,” he said.
The Smart ID card project is an initiative of Chams Plc.
Chams Managing Director, Demola Aladekomo, said the ID cards will provide "government with reliable demographic data of the student population in the state".
“The Osun Smart ID card provides biographical and biometric identification of public school children from elementary schools to middle schools and high schools," Aladekomo said.
