George Russell's Singapore crash streak continues

George Russell crashed at the end of the opening lap of yesterday's sprint race in Singapore, extending the Briton's streak of incidents at Marina Bay.

The Mercedes driver has now crashed at least once in each of his six visits to the Southeast Asian street circuit. His incidents have been split roughly evenly between practice sessions and races at Marina Bay.

Russell's most painful mistake in Singapore undoubtedly came in 2023, when he crashed out midway through the final lap while running third. Alongside 2023, Russell also suffered race-day incidents in 2019 and 2022, having also hit the barriers during practice in 2022.

A year ago, Russell suffered his heaviest crash in Singapore during Friday's second practice session. That did little to rattle the Briton, however, who went on to take pole position the next day and triumph under the Marina Bay floodlights on Sunday. A repeat looks highly unlikely today, as the Mercedes driver will start from the back of the grid due to a penalty.
