The Akwa United striker was part of the home based Super Eagles team that lost 4-0 to Morocco in the finalof the African Nations Championships (CHAN).
According to a report by Okechukwu who was included among the 28 players invited by Gernot Rohr for the friendlies against Poland and Serbia has set his sights on the World Cup.
He said, “It’s a life time opportunity playing for Nigeria at this level and I’m prepared to take it,”
“The World Cup is the biggest competition every player dreams of and I’m not an exception.”
Okechukwu was the match winner for Nigeria in the CHAN quarter finals against Angola and semifinals against Sudan.
Speaking about the upcoming friendlies Okechukwu declared that every player will have to fight for his position in the national team.
“The games will serve as a preparatory test for us and every player invited will be eager to prove their own class so I will be ready to prove that as well,” Okechukwu said.
Okechukwu, Lokomotiv Pluvdin’s Stephen Eze and Al Ahly’s Junior Ajayi are the new comers to the Eagles squad.
The 22-year-old will have to compete with Odion Ighalo, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ajayi for the strikers position.
Okechukwu is expected to be among the Super Eagles when they face Poland on Friday, March 23 and later against Serbia on Tuesday, March 27.
