Sebastian Fundora admitted he had anticipated a much tougher challenge from Keith Thurman in their recent bout. The American encountered little resistance en route to victory, telling PBC reporter Jim Gray after the fight that it proved easier than expected.

“It was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be,” he stated in his post-fight interview.

Fundora (24-1-1, 16 KOs) revealed he was “a little nervous” earlier in the day, acknowledging Thurman (31-2, 23 KOs) as a “big name” in boxing over the years and likely the most prominent opponent he had faced to date.

“But I reminded myself that once you step in the ring, you’re in my world,” he added.

The 28-year-old Fundora dominated from the outset, with referee Thomas Taylor stopping the contest in the sixth round, despite the 37-year-old Thurman appearing ready to continue and desperately seeking a way back into the fight.

This outcome could potentially mark the end of the veteran Thurman’s career. Fundora declared his readiness to face any challenger, asserting that the 154-pound (super welterweight) division is the strongest in the sport. With this victory, Fundora successfully defended his WBC world title in the weight class.
