Good news for Barcelona coach Hansi Flick the day after their painful 0-2 European defeat to Atlético Madrid. Frenkie de Jong participated in the latest training session with the main group at the 'Tito Vilanova' facility within the 'Joan Gamper' sports complex.
The Dutch midfielder sustained an injury to the distal biceps of his right leg during a training session on February 26th and has since been undergoing a recovery process, which prevented an earlier return.
All indications suggest that De Jong will be available for Saturday's derby against Espanyol. He is expected to feature as a substitute, with the aim of building match fitness to allow him more playing time next Tuesday at the 'Metropolitano'. There, Barça must overturn a 0-2 deficit against Atlético Madrid to qualify for the Champions League semi-finals.
De Jong is one of Hansi Flick's key players, and the coach will be without the suspended Pau Cubarsí and the injured Raphinha in Madrid. Marc Bernal remains a doubt due to a sprained left ankle.
