As anticipated since Sunday, the French Football Federation (FFF) has officially submitted a request to FIFA to annul the yellow card received by forward Michael Olise at the end of the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 match against Paraguay (1-0). The Bayern Munich player was booked in the seventh minute of added time for a clash with midfielder Matías Galarza.

Although the Frenchman pulled his opponent's shirt, he didn't appear to strike him. However, this didn't stop the Paraguayan from collapsing to the ground, writhing in pain and clutching his face. As a result of this altercation, Uzbek referee Ilgiz Tantashev showed Olise a yellow card.

The French are concerned because if Olise picks up another yellow card against Morocco, he would be suspended for a potential semi-final. If he avoids a booking, there's no further risk, as single yellow cards are reset for the semi-finals.
