Frederico Ferreira Silva's Roland Garros campaign ended in the opening round of the qualifying stage. The Portuguese tennis player, ranked fourth nationally and 238th in the world, was eliminated by Argentina's Federico Agustin Gomez (186th) after a 2-hour and 24-minute battle.

Despite having 11 break points, the 31-year-old Caldense athlete only managed to convert two. In contrast, his South American opponent demonstrated greater efficiency, capitalizing on the four break opportunities he had throughout the match.

Gomez's superiority was also evident in the number of winners, with the Argentine tallying 47 against just 13 from the Portuguese. Although Frederico Silva committed fewer unforced errors (22 against 51), he conceded 34 forced errors, including the one that sealed match point and the subsequent victory for the Pampas native.

Interestingly, Frederico Silva had previously defeated Gomez in the Chennai final, where he made his debut as a champion on the ATP Challenger circuit.

This marked the Portuguese player's fourth appearance at the Parisian Grand Slam, signaling his return after a three-year absence. It's worth noting that Frederico Silva was a junior doubles champion at Roland Garros in 2013, alongside Britain's Kyle Edmund. In his previous senior appearances, this was the second time he fell in the first round, having reached the doorstep of the main draw on other occasions.

Despite this elimination, Portuguese representation at Roland Garros remains historic, with a total of seven athletes competing. In the men's qualifying, Jaime Faria and Henrique Rocha continue their campaigns, while Nuno Borges (singles) and Francisco Cabral (doubles) have already secured their spots in the main draw. Sisters Francisca Jorge and Matilde Jorge also earned places in the qualifying stage.
