A decade after their improbable Premier League title triumph, Leicester City finds itself at the top of the relegation zone (22nd place) of the English Championship. They could see Portsmouth (21st) extend their lead to four points with just five matches remaining in the season.
In February, the Foxes were hit with a six-point deduction for breaching the Premier League's financial regulations. An independent commission ruled that the club violated Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) pertaining to the 2023/24 season. The charges, confirmed by the Premier League in May, also included failing to submit annual accounts by the December 31st deadline and a lack of "full, complete, and immediate assistance to the Premier League."
The Premier League announced on Wednesday that an independent appeals committee has rejected Leicester's appeal.
"We acknowledge that the decision of an independent commission to recommend a six-point deduction to the club this season has been upheld."
"With the matter now closed and five games remaining in the season, everyone at the club is fully focused on the upcoming matches and shaping the outcome of our season through results on the pitch."
Leicester faces Swansea, Portsmouth, Hull City, Millwall, and Blackburn Rovers in their battle to avoid relegation.
