Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca has revealed he criticized Endrick to provoke a reaction from the French club's player. The Portuguese coach expressed dissatisfaction with the 19-year-old forward's performance, who is on loan from Real Madrid, ahead of the "Kids'" match against Lorient: "I expect more, he needs to do significantly more."
In the Ligue 1 match in question, which Lyon won 2-0 on Sunday, Endrick provided an assist. The Brazilian has scored only one goal in his last 11 appearances.
"A coach needs to find a strategy to provoke a reaction from his players – that's exactly what I did. I said it to provoke a reaction, and I saw it. Yes, we spoke. Endrick is a young player, a very positive person, and I really like his character. At 19, he's going through a period of evolution and change, but we talked, and everything is fine," Fonseca said, as quoted by French media.
Lyon currently sits in fifth place in the league standings with 51 points.
