Flickering Hope for Zvezda Fans, Red-and-Whites' Big Target Openly Discusses Retirement: Last Season? No! Not Yet
This summer, the question of Nikola Vučević's next career move was a hot topic. After departing the Boston Celtics, a return to Europe was rumored. Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet was initially considered a top contender for his signature. However, Vučević ultimately decided to remain in the world's premier basketball league, rejoining the Orlando Magic, a team he previously played for nine years, from 2012 to 2021.
In an interview with “HoopsHype,” Vučević revealed his reasons for returning to Orlando:
- There were several factors. My history with Orlando and familiarity with the franchise played a part. The team is strong, and with Coach Sean Sweeney now at the helm, they're focused on winning. Everything here is also excellent for my family, which is paramount to me.
In his previous five seasons with the Chicago Bulls, before his stint with the Celtics, he averaged 16.9 points, 9 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. There's no doubt he still has top-tier performances to offer in the NBA.
When asked if this would be his final season in the world's strongest league, his answer was short and clear:
- No! Not yet – Vučević emphasized.
Nikola's Farewell, Montenegro's Tears!
The best Montenegrin basketball player of the 21st century, and perhaps in the nation's history, has retired from international play.
His farewell to the national team took place in the Topolica Arena, where Dragan Bokan, President of the Basketball Federation of Montenegro, presented the stalwart center with a framed jersey, a permanent reminder of his time representing his national team. The current Orlando Magic player couldn't hold back tears, receiving applause and ovations for all his contributions. A true legend.
