'Men in Black' by Ayeni Tolulope (Episode 2)
The hungry looking officer called our names and ordered us to follow him. He was looking rugged and despicable, I really hated him and felt like hitting him. He lead us to the D.P.O's office. On getting there I saw my dad sitting directly opposite to the D.P.O, they were both laughing over something, I began to wonder what could be funny about the mess I was in. It was so unlike the pot bellied D.P.O who was looking fierce yesterday.
This was a sign of relieve to Jude and it put a smile on his face. He cried all night and whimpered like a baby. The hungry looking officer gave us our clothes, phones and wallet with a face that made us realize that he wasn't happy with the turn of events. I checked my wallet and discovered that it was empty and gave him a questioning look and he gave me the I don't care stare.
Dad got up and exchanged warm goodbyes with the police officers, he didn't say a word to me or even look into my eyes.
On our way home in his car he began to query me.
"Are you truly into internet fraud." This was the ridiculous offense the police had accused us of last night. Honestly if I was into fraud I wouldn't have slept in the cell, the bribe they requested for is just a piece of cake for most internet fraudsters in my hood.
I didn't reply him, neither did Jude. He must have understood our silence. I didn't have much to say because he was also a policeman. I hated his job and he knows so anything I said would just seem like an hate speech.
"Adu, I can't believe you spent the night in the cell, not just any night buy New Years Eve of all nights.
"Its sad sir, I know I really missed a lot. But those men wanted bribe, one I couldn't give."
That was the truth, last night Jude and I sat outside his compund sharing a bottle of whiskey and surfing the net with our Ipads when a police van stopped right in our front and four battle ready dropped like they spotted a wanted terrorist.
I can remember the hungry looking police man asking me to hand over my phone then his mates claiming we are Yahoo boiz(Internet fraudsters), before we could say Jack Robison or cast another spell on the disoriented policemen, they bundled us into their van. On the way to the sation they threatened to lock us uo if we couldn't pay them for our release. We told them we had nothing and the next thing was we got locked up all night.
