The Golden Eaglets kicked off the defence of the FIFA U-17 World Cup with a 2-0 defeat to their USA counterparts on Saturday night in Santiago, Chile.

After a goalless first half, the Eaglets came all out and grabbed two goals in the second half.

Five minutes into the second half, Chukwudi Agor benefited from an awful defensive display by the Americans to score Nigeria’s first goal.

The Eaglets doubled their lead just after the hour mark through their star striker, Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen held his nerve before finishing into masterfully into the right side of the net.

"Considering it was the first match, I think it was a good game," Amuneke said in a post match interview with FIFA.com.

"At the beginning it was pretty even, everything very tactical, neither of us wanted to make a mistake. At half time I told my players to believe in themselves, and it worked, because we were more precise. Besides the three points, which are very important, I also liked that we kept our heads even when we could not get things going."
