The Federation Cup which was created in 1945 is the top domestic cup competition in Nigeria. The competition has been without a major sponsor for a while as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) failed to reach agreements with several interested firms.

The search for a sponsor is now over with the unveiling of Aiteo, a Nigerian Oil & Gas firm as the sponsors of the event.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, June 28 at a press conference attended by the president of the NFF Amaju Pinnick and other top members of the football federation.

Aiteo now have naming right to the Federation Cup for both men and women. The Federation Cup will now be known as Aiteo Cup.

Winners of the men category will get N25m as prize money and N10M for women.

Runners-up in the men’s competition will get N10m while that of women will get N5m.

FC IfeanyiUbah are the reigning champions of the Federation Cup after beating Nasarawa United to lift the title.

FC IfeanyiUbah defeated Nasarawa United via penalty shoot-out in the final played on Sunday, November 6 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos.

They got N2m as prize money while Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt who won the women’s division got N1m.

Aiteo will assume all organising costs including solidarity payments to state FAs, participating clubs, etc.

This is not Aiteo’s first partnership with the NFF.  .

The N2.5b will be used to pay NFF national team coaches over five years, the duration of the deal.
