FC Porto officially confirmed on Wednesday the transfer of Rodrigo Mora to AS Roma, following an agreement with the Serie A club for a complex deal.
Initially, the blue and white SAD will receive €25 million, with an additional €2 million potentially added based on performance-related objectives, primarily linked to AS Roma's sporting achievements, as learned by A BOLA.
“FC Porto has reached an agreement with AS Roma for the definitive transfer of the sporting registration rights and 50% of the economic rights of Rodrigo Mora for a total value of €27 million, comprising a guaranteed fixed remuneration of €25M plus a maximum variable remuneration of €2M, dependent on the fulfillment of certain sporting conditions,” reads the official statement.
Roma holds “options to acquire up to 50% of the player's economic rights for a total amount of €25M.” The Dragons also retain “an unconditional sell-on option for the percentage of economic rights they still hold at the same reference value – in this case, obliging AS Roma to purchase the percentage FC Porto decides to alienate.”
To clarify: Roma can choose what percentage they wish to acquire from FC Porto. If the Giallorossi opt to buy only 10% of the 50% economic rights held by the Dragons, they can do so, paying a sum calculated from the maximum amount of €50 million, which would be €5 million — 10% of 50.
In this scenario, should the Giallorossi not acquire the entirety of the 19-year-old playmaker's economic rights, the statement reveals that FC Porto “will have the option to sell all economic rights, guaranteeing a minimum income of €50M, or, if preferred, retain a percentage of the economic rights to be defined, in order to benefit from a future sale of the player at a potentially higher value.” In other words, Roma might own 60% of Mora's rights, but if FC Porto wishes to sell the remaining 40%, they can do so, obliging the Italian club to pay the full €50 million.
It's also important to note, according to information gathered by A BOLA, that Roma can acquire additional portions of Mora's economic rights in 2027 and 2028. FC Porto, in turn, can activate their sell-on option/clause in 2028.
“No deductions will be made from the amounts received by FC Porto for the solidarity mechanism, and the Club declares that it will incur intermediation service costs of 10% of the transaction amount,” the blue and whites added.
