Fantastic Form and a Major Announcement: Raphinha Speaks on His Barcelona Future
“I intend to extend my contract. When I first signed, it was until 2028, meaning I’d be 30 or 31 at its conclusion. I wasn't sure how things would unfold,” Raphinha was quoted by AFP.
“Given how I’ve started the season, I believe I can continue for a few more years. I hope I can even finish my career here,” added the “Barca” captain. He took over the armband after the departures of Ronald Araujo and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and Frenkie de Jong's injury. In attack, he found his stride following the exits of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres.
Raphinha joined Barcelona in 2022 from Leeds, with the arrival of coach Hansi Flick in 2024 marking a positive turning point for him. Under the coach who led the Catalan club to two league titles, a Spanish Cup, and two Spanish Super Cups, he scored 66 of his 86 goals. In Wednesday's match against newcomers Racing Santander (7-2), he netted a hat-trick.
Barcelona remains undefeated across all competitions this season. They lead the league table by three points over Real Madrid and Betis Sevilla. On Saturday, they face fifth-placed FC Sevilla away from home.
