Ex Nigeria international wants probe into his failed FIFA presidency bid

Former Nigerian international Segun Odegbami has called for a probe into his unsuccessful attempt to contest for the president of FIFA.

The Ex-Nigeria couldn't get the five required backing after the support from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) came too late and therefore missed the Monday, October 26 deadline for the submission of a nomination form.

Odegbami has however decried the unbelief that greeted the announcement of his intention to contest for the FIFA presidency.

“I don’t want to say that the process was sabotaged from the word go but that’s the truth staring us in our faces,” Odegbami is quoted to say by newspaper.

Odegbami claimed that his attempt to contest in the FIFA presidential elections was sabotaged by some Nigerians.

He claimed that he got the backing of the president of the Nigeria Football Association (NFF) Amaju Pinnick who promised to get him endorsement from other five countries to validate his candidacy.

“I was not in Cairo but information filtered in that some Nigerians were determined to stop Pinnick from getting the endorsements as they insisted that somebody else has been endorsed,” Odegbami claimed.

He then called for the Federal Government of Nigeria to launch an inquiry intohis failed attempy.

“I’m sure government must be taken aback by the turn of events as they forced the NFF to make the pronouncement backing my candidature, but then the NFF never released the required document on time,” he said.

“I think my candidature was shrouded in disbelief - why him, he cannot win, he is wasting our time, among other insinuations.

FIFA on Wednesday, October 28 announced the seven candidates who will be contesting in next year’s elections.

The list include names like Ali Bin Al Hussein, Musa Hassan Bility, Jerome Champagne, Gianni Infantino, Michel Platini, Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa and Tokyo Sexwale.
