The controversy surrounding Enzo Fernández and Chelsea appears to have reached its conclusion. Following comments made by the Argentine midfielder during the international break, which were interpreted as a nod to Real Madrid, his agent, Javier Pastore, assured Top Mercato that the situation has been resolved and peace has been brokered with the London club.
The saga began when the former Benfica player, in an interview while on international duty with Argentina, stated he could envision himself living in Madrid. This sparked significant controversy at Stamford Bridge. Liam Rosenior deemed the player's words disrespectful and a two-match suspension was applied.
Initially, Pastore, a former PSG player, labeled the sanction as "unfair" and even hinted at a potential departure for his client after the 2026 World Cup. However, his tone shifted dramatically after discussions with the Blues' management.
"We've already discussed this over the past few days. These were statements he made with no intention of causing problems for Chelsea," Pastore clarified. "He's the captain, one of the team's leaders, and he's been showing his best form on the pitch this season. He merely spoke about a city. Then, there were many interviews in a short period where he discussed his future. The media mixed everything up and started saying he was leaving Chelsea. There's nothing to it," he assured.
The agent confirmed that the misunderstanding has been cleared up: "We are in sync with Chelsea. We made peace yesterday and the day before yesterday between Chelsea and the player. In truth, there were never any problems. We just set the record straight."
Pastore admitted that his 25-year-old client made a mistake. "We explained to the player that, although he didn't do anything wrong, he shouldn't have said that. He's still young, he has things to learn," he stated. "We explained to the club that he said it without malice, that he made a mistake. He, naturally, apologized to the club, his teammates, the coach, the sporting director, everyone. We are all aligned. It was just a matter of resolving the misunderstanding," he explained.
With Chelsea battling for a Champions League spot via the Premier League, where they currently sit sixth, Pastore called for unity for the remainder of the season. "Chelsea is playing for their Champions League qualification through the Premier League, which is very important for the club. Enzo needs to play because a World Cup is approaching. Chelsea needs him because he is a key player," he argued.
"We discussed, we sorted everything out from both sides. Things are perfectly clear. There is no conflict whatsoever. Enzo has six more years on his contract, and we have to work together, which is what we are doing," he concluded.
Enzo Fernández will serve his suspension in the FA Cup match against Port Vale (7-0) and will also miss Sunday's clash with Manchester City. His return is anticipated for April 18th, against Manchester United.
