English clubs do not expect Man City to be in the Premier League next season
Premier League clubs do not expect Manchester City to remain in the top flight next season if their appeal against the financial breaches ruling is rejected, according to Sky Sports. Rivals believe that a mere points deduction and a monetary fine would be insufficient given the scale of the breaches committed across nine seasons.
Manchester City were found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges concerning severe breaches of Premier League financial regulations, but the club vehemently deny the findings and have already launched an appeal. The Etihad hierarchy insists they possess a "comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence" to support their stance in the appeals process. Rival clubs maintain that any punishment must reflect the duration and severity of the infractions. According to Sky Sports, there is a widespread expectation among clubs that the sanction will be far heavier than a one-year ban from European competitions, a transfer embargo, or a simple fine.
The appeals process is pending, with a hearing to determine the appropriate sanctions set to take place alongside it. The independent commission has a variety of measures at its disposal, including points deductions, fines, transfer bans, or City's outright expulsion from the Premier League.
