Emi Martinez Rushed to Hospital After Heavy Collision in Chelsea vs Everton Clash
Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was stretchered off the pitch following a deeply concerning incident during Chelsea's clash with Everton. Past the hour mark, the Argentine shot-stopper suffered a serious blow after a heavy collision with Toffees defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
The sickening collision occurred following a cross from the left wing into the penalty area, where Branthwaite and the former Aston Villa goalkeeper clashed heads. The South American's Chelsea teammates frantically gestured for the medical team to rush on, with defender Levi Colwill clutching his head in distress.
Play was halted for over seven minutes as medical personnel treated both players. While the English centre-back was able to get back to his feet, the London side's first-choice keeper took the brunt of the impact and had to be carried off on a stretcher.
Reports across the English media confirmed that the former Aston Villa player was immediately transported to the hospital for thorough examinations and treatment.
Martinez was conscious as he was carried off the Hill Dickinson pitch, visibly in tears. At the time of the stoppage, the Blues held a narrow lead courtesy of a Pedro Neto strike early in the second half.
