EFL Cup: Awoniyi helps Nottingham Forest to knockout Tottenham

Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi was in action as Nottingham Forest sent Tottenham out of the English Cup.

Awoniyi featured for just over an hour in the impressive display which saw the Reds knock out Antonio Conte and his men.

Two second half goals from Renan Lodi and Jesse Lingard inspired Forest to a place in the fourth round of the competition.

It was a quiet evening for the 25-year-old former Liverpool man while his compatriot Dennis Emmanuel was a mere spectator on the bench.

Jesse Lingard was the star of the night as Forest delivered a shock on Wednesday night.

The former Manchester United star scored one and assisted another to inspire Forest to a comprehensive win over a poor Conte side.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes, the home side turned in a performance of high quality, scoring two goals in the space of seven second half minutes to earn a deserved win and ticket to the fourth round.

The win was the first in three matches for the Premier League new boys.

Both clubs will switch focus to the Premier League, Forest host Crystal Palace while Spurs take on Leeds United in London
