Early-Season Blow for Oklahoma City: Thunder Lose Two Key Starters to Long-Term Injuries
The Oklahoma City Thunder will be without two key starters for an extended period, ESPN reports. The 2025 NBA champions lost both Cason Wallace and Jalen Williams to serious injuries during Sunday's 108-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.
Wallace suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder and is set to undergo surgery followed by months of rehabilitation. Williams sustained a fractured fibula in his left leg alongside a dislocated ankle and will also require surgery, with a definitive recovery timeline to be established post-operation. However, both players are expected to miss the vast majority of the newly tipped-off NBA season, with the possibility of being sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.
Wallace earned NBA All-Defensive Team honors last season, a distinction Williams received the year prior.
The loss of their starting shooting guard and small forward marks yet another severe injury blow for the Thunder in recent years. Center Chet Holmgren missed his entire rookie season with a foot injury, while Nikola Topic has been limited to just ten appearances over the past two seasons after tearing his ACL and subsequently battling testicular cancer. Williams himself missed 49 games last season due to a string of injuries, primarily involving his wrist and hamstring.
