It was an historic evening for D'Tigers.

Defending champions Angola were overwhelming favourites to claim a 12th African trophy but Chamberlain Oguchi starred as Nigeria triumphed in Rades, Tunisia.

President Buhari in a statement via his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Femi Adeshina commended the players for displaying exemplary strength, courage, determination and patriotism as well as great skills and creativity to dethrone Angola, the perennial African basketball champions.

The victory also secured Nigeria's qualification for the men's basketball event at next year's Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro and Buhari in the statement urge the team to continue their excellence at the games.
