Denver Ready to Part with a Star! Blockbuster Trade on the Horizon as Jokić Awaits a Championship Roster Overhaul
The Denver Nuggets will be a key team to watch now that the NBA offseason has officially begun. After raising expectations to a maximum and declaring a push for the NBA title following major roster changes in the summer of 2025—securing what was initially considered the best support Nikola Jokić had ever had—the Nuggets ultimately suffered a harsh and disappointing first-round playoff exit, losing in six games to their rivals, the Minnesota Timberwolves.
If the Nuggets intend to make any immediate moves, Aaron Gordon is the most likely trade candidate, as the beloved Denver star is reportedly drawing the most serious interest from other teams, according to well-connected NBA insider Marc Stein.
"The early word out of Nuggets camp: I'm told that Aaron Gordon, who turns 31 in September, is the Denver veteran who generates the strongest external interest. He is entering the first season of a three-year, $103.6 million contract extension that Gordon secured after helping Nikola Jokić and Co. win the franchise's first-ever NBA title in 2022-23," Stein wrote in his latest report.
Gordon is coming off a difficult, injury-plagued 2025-26 season, which limited him to just 36 appearances. His absence due to a calf issue played a huge role in Denver's first-round playoff elimination against Minnesota this year.
His name has surfaced in trade rumors before, as the veteran is widely regarded throughout the league as a highly versatile player and an effective small-ball center option.
Despite significant interest in Aaron Gordon and talk of needing to trade Jamal Murray, it is widely believed that the Nuggets would still prefer to find trade options centered around Christian Braun.
After signing a five-year, $125 million contract extension last year, Braun played in only 44 regular-season games due to injuries, averaging 12.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.
"League sources say that the Nuggets' most desired course for roster reconstruction is finding a trade market for Christian Braun before exploring scenarios involving Gordon or Jamal Murray after Murray's first All-Star season, but those efforts are fraught with challenges," Stein revealed.
