De’Aaron Fox in Lisbon, Shulga at Neemias' Camp

The 3rd Neemias Queta Training Camp kicked off this Monday, set to run until Friday at the Quinta dos Lombos Pavilion in Carcavelos. The Portuguese Celtics center has already unveiled the first surprise to the 100 young basketball players, aged 13 to 17, who are looking to develop their technical and tactical skills alongside him.

In addition to the five previously announced assistant coaches from Boston, "Neemy" brought along a former teammate: 24-year-old Ukrainian Max Shulga. The point guard, like Queta, attended Utah State University, with both sharing the locker room in 2020/21, during the Portuguese international's final year in college.

After being selected by the Magic with the 57th pick in the 2025 draft, Shulga was traded to Boston, where he primarily played in the G League for the Maine Celtics. He also made 11 appearances in the 2025/26 regular season alongside Neemias. Earlier this month, Max Shulga competed in the Las Vegas Summer League for the Warriors.

However, another good friend of Neemias arrived in Portugal today: All-Star De’Aaron Fox. His visit, though, isn't to help coach the youngsters in Carcavelos. Portugal, and Lisbon in particular, are truly trending destinations. Following visits last week from Klay Thompson (Mavericks) — a four-time champion with the Warriors — and Buddy Hield, now a shooting guard for the Hawks, Fox also wanted to experience the charms of Lisbon and is simply here as a tourist.

A teammate of Neemias during his first two NBA seasons with the Kings (2021/22 and 2022/23), their friendship endures despite moving to teams in opposing conferences. Neemias joined the Celtics in the summer of 2023, winning a championship in 2023/24, while the explosive 28-year-old De’Aaron remained in Sacramento for another season and a half before being traded to the Spurs.

A month and a half ago, in the NBA Finals, he attempted to add a championship title alongside French center Victor Wembanyama to his two All-Star appearances, but ultimately fell to the Knicks 4-1.

It's worth noting that the Neemias Training Camp once again features assistant coach Taaj Ridley, who was also present at the second edition and is one of Joe Mazzulla's direct assistants with the Celtics. This time, he's joined by assistant coaches Isaiah Covington, Nana Fouland, God Shammgod Jr., and Ross McMains.

With Carlos Barroca continuing as the camp director, the technical staff also includes former international players and other coaches: Miguel Minhava (GDESSA coach), Bernardo Pires (Sporting coach), Rebecca Taylor (three-time MVP of the women's Betclic League), Isabel Lemos, Alexandra Meinêdo, Carolina Bernardeco, Francisco Barroca, and Miguel Polici.
