Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi expressed significant disappointment following his team's 2-2 draw with Brighton. The Spurs conceded a late equalizer in stoppage time, leading the coach to admit he felt as though they had lost the match, especially given the crucial points dropped in their fight for survival.
“Yes, I feel like we lost because we played a good game. Brighton is a very good team. At this moment, they are playing very strongly. But I think we deserved to win the match, especially considering we conceded a goal in added time after losing possession while the ball was still ours,” De Zerbi stated.
Despite the result, he affirmed his pride in his team.
“I am very proud because the players gave their all, with the right mentality, the right passion, and the right character. We played well with the ball. Perhaps we were better in the first half without the ball, because in the second half we suffered too much when the opponent had possession,” the Italian tactician added.
He also commented on Kevin Danso's error that led to the equalizer.
“I prefer to make mistakes by showing the character to play, rather than conceding a goal without character or courage. Now we need courage. To win matches, we must be positive and play football,” the Italian believes.
However, he refused to throw in the towel in the battle for survival, even targeting five victories.
“It’s not over yet. It’s tough, we still have five matches. It’s hard to hear my words now, but if you observe the players and analyze their level, I think we can win five consecutive matches. I don’t want to sound arrogant, because I am not arrogant, especially now, but we have enough quality to fight and win consecutive games,” De Zerbi elaborated.
“I am only disappointed because of the result, for my players, and for the fans, because the atmosphere was incredible. In a very difficult situation, the stadium was amazing,” the specialist concluded.
