Game of Thrones' second-to-last episode title, "The Bells," refers to King's Landing's signal for surrender. Danaerys ignored the bells, going on to incinerate the city (and its residents) with the help of Drogon. Dany's apathy has inspired an amazing new Game of Thrones meme.

The title of the episode should have tipped us off. "The Bells," Game of Thrones's recent bloodbath , refers to the signal given to announce the surrender of King's Landing. (Yet another musical title for a bloody episode; the Red Wedding episode was famously titled "The Rains of Castamere," another song). "The Bells" also likely refers to English poet John Donne's "to whom the bell tolls," a line in reference to funeral bells and also Donne's pathos to all who have died and will die: "the bell tolls for thee."

On Sunday night, Dany ignored King's Landing's surrender and charged onward with Drogon, dracarys-ing everything in sight. (Her "Mad Queen" side was coming out-and some fans weren't thrilled about it.)

Ultimately, the bell tolled for most men, women, and children in King's Landing ...and Daenerys obviously didn't share Donne's sympathy. A real tragedy. But on the bright side, Dany ignoring the bells in King's Landing inspired an amazing new Game of Thrones meme. And you KNOW how we love a Game of Thrones meme .
