Catalan police (Mossos d'Esquadra) have broken up a criminal gang in Gavà, near Barcelona, specializing in burglaries targeting celebrities and footballers. According to official reports from local law enforcement, the crime ring had been operating across several Catalan municipalities since the beginning of 2025.
The specialized operation took place on October 1 and led to the arrest of two men, aged 58 and 42, and a 46-year-old woman. The trio has been linked to at least eight confirmed burglaries across Castelldefels (two cases), El Papiol, Sant Vicenç de Montalt, Cubelles, Peralada, Sant Pere de Ribes, and Agullana.
According to reports from "La Vanguardia," confirmed to news agency EFE by police sources, the gang's most high-profile target was the home of FC Barcelona goalkeeper Joan García. On January 10, two members of the gang broke into the property in Baix Llobregat, where the player lives with his partner.
Investigators also noted that the group had been staking out and planning a break-in at the home of his teammate Jules Koundé, although the plan was never fully executed.
Two of the suspects have already been handed over to judicial authorities. Combined, the three detainees have more than 30 prior criminal records, the majority of which are for offenses against property.
The investigation was triggered after police identified an identical modus operandi across numerous robberies in different parts of Catalonia. The criminals carefully selected high-profile targets and followed a well-rehearsed plan, utilizing rental vehicles for transport and conducting regular surveillance to study their victims' routines and property layouts before striking.
