South Africa's Dale Steyn out of second India Test

South Africa paceman Dale Steyn has been ruled out of the second Test against India due to a groin injury.

Steyn sustained the problem during the first Test in Mohali last week and has not recovered in time to spearhead the Proteas' attack in Bangalore.

Fellow paceman Vernon Philander was ruled out of the rest of the tour after suffering ankle ligament damage playing football in training on Thursday, so Kyle Abbott has been added to the squad.

JP Duminy and Morne Morkel are set to return from injury when South Africa attempt to level the four-match series by winning the second Test, which starts on Saturday, but captain Hashim Amla was left to rue the absence of two key men.

He said: "Losing Dale, one of the best bowlers in the world, and Vernon, arguably the best all-rounder in the world, certainly changes the dynamics of the whole team. "But the guys who are going to be replacing them are quality cricketers and we are very fortunate to have a great depth in our bowling attack, especially.

"If you want to win a series, it is generally won by 15 players and not 11. We still have a potent bowling attack to back it up."
