With Mitchell Marsh struggling with the bat against New Zealand, there were suggestions Nevill could be promoted to number six.

Nevill averages 27.30 at Test level, with two half-centuries, but is unfazed about where he bats in the first Test starting in Hobart on Thursday.

"I'm happy to bat where the captain wants me to bat," he told a news conference on Tuesday.

"It doesn't concern me where that is but, at this point, I haven't had any conversations about it."

Australia are hot favourites to crush West Indies in the three-Test series, particularly after the tourists were embarrassed by a Cricket Australia (CA) XI.

But Nevill played down the result of the tour match, which the youthful CA XI won by 10 wickets in Brisbane.

"A lot of guys are just trying to prepare and get what they need out of that specific game," he said.

"You can't afford to be complacent with any side, but I think a side with that bowling attack as well, they can be very dangerous."
