Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti has addressed whether the franchise would consider luring the retired Russell Westbrook back to the court following severe injuries to Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace.

"I haven't thought about the open roster spot yet. I understand the reasoning behind the question, but right now my focus is entirely on our players—providing the necessary support and helping everyone on the team. We face a huge challenge ahead, but that is our profession and we embrace that challenge," Presti stated.

Both Williams and Wallace are facing extended spells on the sidelines, potentially missing the remainder of the season, as both players are set to undergo surgery.

Front office insider Bobby Marks pointed out that the Thunder are eligible to apply for a disabled player exception. However, to be approved, an NBA-designated independent physician must officially confirm that at least one of the injured players will be sidelined through June 15.

Westbrook spent 11 seasons in Oklahoma City between 2008 and 2019, capturing the MVP award and cementing his status as a club legend. Following his departure from the Thunder, the guard suited up for six different franchises before announcing his retirement ahead of the 2026/27 season.
