Corsica will face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a friendly game on Friday, May 26.

Corsica is an island and one of the 13 regions of France and while being part of the European giants it is also designated as a territorial collectivity (collectivité territoriale) by law.

They are however not affiliated with either UEFA or FIFA and as such do not participate in any competition.

The last time they played a football match was in May 2016, which was  Basque Country. They lost 9-8 on penalties after regulation time ended 1-1.

The native language of Corsica whose population was put at 322,120 in 2013 is northern variant closely related to the Italian language which is recognised as a regional language by the French government.

Corsica’s first ever match was a friendly against France in February 1967 which they won 2-0.

Their first  African opponent was Cameroon in a friendly that was played in 1998 just before the FIFA World Cup in France.

Cameroon won 1-0. They have also played against Gabon, Togo and Ethiopia.
