Conor Benn has stated that signing with Zuffa Boxing was the best decision for his family.
Speaking with talkSPORT, the boxer discussed his choice to leave Eddie Hearn and Matchroom, who had supported him through his doping controversies and the ups and downs of his career.
“Ultimately, this is the best decision for me, my family, and my career,” Benn said. “It’s a one-fight deal, and I’m incredibly excited about it. The question was, ‘Do you want to fight?’ Yes, absolutely, no problem. And here I am. Everything happened quickly; I stayed in shape, I was ready and disciplined. In the end, activity is key for me... An opportunity presented itself that I couldn't refuse.”
“I have respect for Matchroom. I have respect for Eddie. Regardless of what they say or what’s being said, I still want Eddie in my corner. I have no ill feelings towards him. But if you make me choose between my family and what secures their future and legacy – my children are my legacy... When I’m done with boxing, no one will care, and someone new like me will come along.”
“You have to strike while the iron is hot and take the best offer for me and my family, and this was by far the best. That’s why I’m excited to box under the Zuffa banner.”
Benn is set to face Regis Prograis on April 11th at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and expects to secure a world title shot soon after.
