Nigeria clinches top two seats
According to various media reports, Prof. Umar Danbatta has been elected as the new chairman of the 54-member Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) after being elected at its yearly Forum and Council meeting yesterday in Nairobi, Kenya.
Danbatta is currently the acting executive vice chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and chairmanship of the CTO is usually country specific and the position is held by that country’s chief telecoms regulator.
Alongside Danbatta’s election was the resumption of Engr. Shola Taylor as the secretary General and Chief Executive of CTO. Taylor was named as Secretary General on June 16, 2015 in the London, the United Kingdom.
Nigeria had won the position in 2014 with yesterday’s election being the end of the first tenure, another beginning with Danbatta’s election.
