In an official statement, the Cavs acknowledged they were aware of the legal reports surrounding Harden and would continue to monitor the case's developments.

The organization added that it had already contacted the star guard's representatives.

"The Cleveland Cavaliers are aware of James Harden's arrest this morning and are in the process of gathering additional information. We are in contact with James and his representatives and will continue to monitor the situation," the statement read, as quoted by Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated.

Harden was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning in Houston and charged with a misdemeanor for unlawfully carrying a weapon.

According to court records, Harden was detained around 3:41 AM after authorities observed a handgun prominently displayed on the seat of a vehicle registered in his name. The weapon was reportedly not secured in a holster.

Harden was booked into jail at 4:57 AM and later released after posting a $100 bond. His initial court appearance is scheduled for June 22.

Under Texas state law, carrying a handgun in a vehicle without a holster or in a manner that makes it visible is illegal.

The veteran, who is expected to decline his $42 million player option for the 2026/27 season, arrived in Cleveland after a trade with the LA Clippers before this winter's NBA trade deadline.

The guard helped the Cavs reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2018, averaging 20.5 points, 7.7 assists, and 4.8 rebounds in 26 regular-season games.
