Chip Ganassi Racing has unveiled the livery Alex Palou will race in the NTT IndyCar Series season finale at Laguna Seca next weekend.
At the Grand Prix of Monterey, the Spaniard, who is on the verge of securing his fifth IndyCar title in the last six years, will use a color scheme that pays tribute to Alex Zanardi, who passed away in early May. The legendary Italian claimed two championships across the Atlantic in 1997 and 1998, both achieved with Chip Ganassi's team.
Back then, the team was sponsored by the popular retail chain Target, and Zanardi's and Jimmy Vasser's cars featured yellow lightning bolts on a dark red background. Palou will utilize a similar color scheme next week at Laguna Seca, the very track where, in late 1996, Zanardi executed one of the most memorable overtakes in history, passing Bryan Herta in the "Corkscrew" on the final lap to win the race.
