China celebrates in style with fireworks, colours

Today February 8, 2016 marks the beginning of a new year according to the Chinese lunar calender. The year which is themed 'The year of the Monkey will last until January 27, 2017.

Unlike the way the rest of the world celebrates new year, the Chinese new year is a time of family. The celebratory fervour can be identified in cities like Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing as drapes in hues of red and gold, fireworks.

The colour red and gold indicates wealth and prosperity.
