Chapecoense won the Santa Catarina state championship despite a 1-0 loss to Avia at home in the second leg.

They won the first leg 1-0 which made the aggregate score 1-1 giving them their second consecutive State Championship courtesy of a better regular season.

This title win comes following the tragic loss of almost their entire team in a plane crash which killed 71 of the 77 people who boarded a flight to Atletico Nacional in the Copa Sudamericana final last year.

Only three Chapecoense players survived the plane crash in November while new coach Vagner Mancini signed 25 new players at the beginning of the season.

Half of new players were on loan while nine other players were promoted from the youth team.
