Carvajal explains why Sergio Ramos will not be joining him at Getafe

Getafe defender Dani Carvajal has revealed he spoke with Sergio Ramos regarding the possibility of reuniting on the pitch. While the former Real Madrid captain continues to stay in shape and remains open to suitable offers, a switch to Getafe appears unlikely at this stage.

"I spoke with Sergio Ramos," Carvajal told AS. "He told me our squad situation is complicated because we already have five or six centre-backs. He'll keep training in case the right opportunity comes along. He remains open to the market if an offer comes in that appeals to him. Ramos is an absolute beast when it comes to workouts and physical conditioning."

The Spain international also weighed in on veteran players wanting to dictate the terms of their own retirement.

"I agree that everyone should decide for themselves when to step away from the game and leave those emotions behind. That can happen when your body no longer allows it, or when the desire to train every morning fades away. The injury I suffered nearly a year ago and the subsequent lack of regular minutes made me want to rediscover the joy of football. That was the key spark that motivated me to keep going," the defender explained.

The 40-year-old Ramos has been a free agent since parting ways with Mexican outfit Monterrey in January 2026. Across his illustrious career, the former Spain international has also represented Sevilla, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain.
