Madrid-based outfit Getafe are in advanced negotiations to sign former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal, according to reports in the Spanish media. The veteran full-back has been a free agent since his contract with Los Blancos expired at the end of June.
The news, first revealed by Spanish outlet ABC, has sparked excitement among Getafe supporters. The move also has the full backing of head coach José Bordalás, who views Carvajal as the ideal signing to add experience, pedigree, and character to his squad.
The main hurdle in finalizing the transfer will be securing clearance from La Liga's Economic Control Committee. The right-back's salary at Real Madrid was substantial, whereas Getafe operate under a strict and significantly lower wage cap.
Carvajal spent the entire summer training individually, waiting for the right offer to conclude his career on a high note. He had been linked with several clubs, including Liverpool and Como. Speculation even briefly linked him with Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia—a rumor dismissed as absurd by former CSKA manager Hristo Yanev.
Getafe currently sit 11th in La Liga and are set to face league leaders Barcelona on October 10 immediately following the international break.
