Carrick on Man City charges, Tottenham threat, and Man Utd injury updates

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick believes it is in everyone's best interests to reach a swift final resolution regarding Manchester City's legal case. Just over a week ago, a landmark ruling found the Premier League champions guilty on 114 of 115 charges related to financial rule breaches. Manchester City continue to deny all wrongdoing and have launched an appeal, but Carrick pointed out that the fleeting emotion of winning trophies in the moment can never truly be recaptured after the fact.

“I think the beauty of sport, and football in particular, is the pursuit of trophies, the journey to get there, and the final itself. Whether things go your way or not, once that moment passes, you can never get it back. Neither one way or the other. That is the feeling we are all chasing—to come out victorious. I have plenty of questions about it myself because that situation has impacted me in various ways in the past. But given how things are developing, I honestly don't know the full details or how it will end. We just have to wait and see,” Carrick explained.

The former midfielder also discussed upcoming opponents Tottenham Hotspur, describing them as a dangerous side whose current form table is deceptive. Spurs sit bottom of the Premier League with just two points and two goals scored through their opening five fixtures.

“I think at times they have played much better than their results suggest. When you analyze their matches, they are a strong side with some exceptional individual quality. They brought together a squad in the summer that is vastly different from what they had previously. I am aware of where they are in the table, but we are preparing to face the very best version of them. In truth, they have shown that quality for long stretches this season and deserved far more from their performances,” Carrick noted.

Carrick confirmed that full-back Patrick Dorgu faces several weeks on the sidelines after picking up an injury while representing Denmark. Noussair Mazraoui is also a doubt after taking a knock on international duty with Morocco. In more positive news for the Red Devils, Carlos Baleba, Marcus Rashford, and Kobbie Mainoo have returned to training and are expected to be available for the trip to north London.

“Patrick was forced off for Denmark and looks likely to be out for a few weeks. Noussair took a heavy knock as well and isn't quite 100 per cent, so we will assess him tomorrow. Carlos is making great strides and has trained extensively. Amad has been doing some light work, while Marcus and Kobbie have both been back involved to varying degrees. It's a bit of a mixed bag across the squad. Benjamin Šeško is still some way off with his issue and won't be available,” Carrick concluded.
